Club Opening Day 1 November

Pacific will be holding an opening day on Sunday 1 November 2015 at the clubrooms. This is a great chance to get new members enrolled, meet up with our club committee, friends from last year and lifeguards and welcome our new coach Emma to the team!

New Coach for 2015 season

Emma Mudgway will be leading our coach programme this season (2015-2016). This is fantastic news as Emma has been a part of Pacific SLS club since she was a nipper and she is at EIT studying Sport and Recreation. She will be managing the coaching of our development squad (11-14yr olds) and taking them to surf competitions, our City Nipper programme (7-12yrs, have a go) as well as our more senior members (15-18yrs) who want to compete this year.

Quiz Night was GREAT!

Our club fundraiser, Pacific Quiz NIght on last Friday 29th August...was an evening of fun, friends and a bit of a challenge! Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a blast...we had around 80 people attend and raised around $800.

Thank you to all involved on Friday evening in making our Quiz evening so enjoyable. Special thanks to Sherrise in collating all the donations for our prizes, and of course to our Quiz Master the inimitable Mr Fisher who recognises Palmerston as being in the Province of Marlborough!!

Thank you also to Donna and Karen S for the magnificent supper and Sarah who "personed" the bar and did a great job, making sure no one went thirsty. This was a great club get-together and a perfect opportunity to have some fun and introduce your friends to the friendly family of Pacific!!

Thanks to all the local businesses who donated prizes for our raffles and spots....

We're looking for a Club Coach...

Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club are looking for a Head Coach for the 2014-2015 season.

We're looking for a dynamic individual with awesome surf lifesaving skills and coaching experience.

Located in sunny Hawke's Bay, Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club aims to deliver high quality surf lifesaving coaching to over 50 members. Our goal is to achieve significant growth in our junior section and having a top coach is a vital factor in this transformation.

As the Head Coach you will have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), be comfortable working with seniors and juniors (as well as their parents), be able to work pro-actively with our club committee - willing to contribute to yearly club goals and most importantly, have experience and knowledge of surf lifesaving and beach education. A major focus this year will be on up-skilling our members on surf coaching so there is an expectation that our coach will lead and facilitate this initiative.

This position is between 15-25 hours per week, and may be flexible depending on the applicants skills and experiences. The committee will consider the option to jobshare and employ two coaches - one to lead and deliver the 'City Nippers' programme (for kids aged 7-12 years, a group of around 30-40) and one to coach the more senior members (13 years plus, a group of around 15-20).

If you have a proven history of leading successful teams, have appropriate coaching experience and surf lifesaving skills and you are up for a challenge then we invite you to apply today. We welcome applicants who are forward thinking, have a dynamic approach to surf coaching and enjoy working as part of a positive team.

Employment Period

The period of this contract shall be from early October 2014 to late March 2015

Hours and Remuneration

$20.00 per hour, hours will range between 15-25 hours per week.

National Jandal Day - 31st January

The Annual Surf Life Saving Summer Appeal is on Thurs 30th January, Fri 31st January and Sat 1st February - WE NEED HELP. If you can spare 2 hours of your time on one of our collection points then text/phone Karen 021 2279860.

The times/days for collection:-

Thursday 30th January - 4pm-8pm, Friday 31st January - 9am - 8pm, Saturday 1st February 9am-2pm.

We have sites in Napier City as well as Greenmeadows and Taradale.

The SECOND Junior Surf Carnival was held on 19th January.....

It was a stunning day and our City Nippers did really well....good fun! Results here.
10/11yrs Age Group & Cadet Arena. Flags, sprints, relays, surf race, board race, tin man & diamond lady events.

Pacific Surf Branded Swimwear - available NOW

Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club has organised with SPANK swimwear to make available togs and swimgear to all our members with Pacific Surf branding on it. These are recommended wear for our members especially if competing in the seasons surf carnivals so we all can be easily recognised as a part of the awesome Pacific family.

All swimwear is Black with Yellow 'PACIFIC' across backside, apart from long trunks which will have the 'PACIFIC' down the leg.

Beach Patrol starts Sunday 24th November

Pacific Surf Life Saving Club is officially launching their patrols on the Marine Parade beach in Napier on Sunday 24th November. Our surf lifeguards are getting set to begin patrols and keep watch over swimmers on the popular city beach as the warmer weather arrives.

Pacific Surf Life Saving is one of many clubs gearing up to begin patrols...this season around 4,000 volunteer lifeguards will spend over 200,000 hours keeping a watchful eye on over 80 beaches throughout the country, helping to make them a safer place for Kiwis and their families to enjoy their summer.

Pacific Surf Club OPEN DAY Sunday 10th November

Come along to the Pacific Surf Clubs OPEN DAY on Sunday 10th November at our clubrooms on Marine Parade.

This is an event for all current members to welcome in the season as well as people who are interested in seeing what the club is all about...there will be an opportunity to meet club members, talk about the season coming up and ask questions, have a look at our equipment and take a tour of the club rooms. The IRB's will be in action - bring your togs for a swim! PLUS for the kids - a lolly scramble, sausage sizzle and maybe even a ride on the IRB's.

Festivities start at 12pm at the Marine Parade clubrooms (by Ocean Spa). SEE YOU THERE!

Junior Surf "City Nippers" starts Sunday 10th November

Pacific Surf's junior programme "City Nippers" kicks off for the summer on Sunday 10th November from 10am on the beach at Hardinge Rd. We're looking forward to welcoming back our City Nippers families for another summer - we have plenty of room in our programmes, so please encourage your friends to consider the benefit of our programmes and come along to join in.

City Nippers Junior Surf is for 7 to 13-year-olds and is run every Sunday 10-12pm from November 10th to Early March. It is a fun, safe and affordable way for kids to learn and develop skills for a lifetime of enjoyment in the sea and surf. Cost $30 per child.

Surf Lifeguard Award course
Hamish is back from Africa in a couple of weeks and itching to get back into his sport coaching roles for the club. He is also planning to run the first Surf Lifeguard Award course for the summer in late November. Achieving the Surf Lifeguard Award is a rewarding challenge at all ages, says a lot about you as person and is highly regarded by employers. . Any member 14 years+ can apply to attend the course and complete assessment to become a Surf Lifeguard. More info to follow. Contact the club if your interested.
Nippers 12 years and above If you are keen to extend your skills and work with the seniors at their trainings please see Hamish, David or Anne. You would need to be a confident swimmer easily completing 400m, with the seniors communicating thru a facebook communications page that you need to join, as training are weather based and the nipper text system does not extend to cover these.

Annual Subscription
Subscription accounts are out - we need these to be paid promptly so your Surf NZ membership is renewed for the new season and allows you to participate in events, please email pacificsurf@xtra.co.nz if you have not received. Due to a new ruling that all participants in carnivals and events wear a Hi Viz tops we will be selling these at a subsidised cost of $10.00, it has also been recommended that these be worn at training times as well.

Icebreaker
Thanks to those who helped, it was a smaller turnout than usual with three of our Lifeguards competing Amber Helliwell, Simon Kay and Kelly Sunnex, with Simon and Kelly winning the Male and Female individual events

Lifeguarding Events
Some of you may not know that our lifeguards along with others from local clubs provide a water safety service to local water sport events like the Iron Maori, they are present on the rescue boards and also IRB's, this does also
generate some income for the club.

Winter Training
We had a solid turnout for most sessions and thanks Bruce Baarspul for giving his time, also to David Beattie who was able to give some valuable training on the boards to all ages. It was a great way for the club members to keep up
their fitness and skills, and we saw some fantastic improvement in some of the swimmers.
