Junior Surf Programme

CITY NIPPERS - Start date Sunday 1 November 10-12pm, Opening Day at the Pacific Surf Lifesaving clubrooms by Ocean Spa. Bring your togs as we will do swim testing at the pool plus there will be opportunities to meet the coaches and committee, some fun games, a sausage sizzle and season registrations and information for you on what's happening each week.

City Nippers Junior Surf is for 7 to 13-year-olds and is run every Sunday 10-12pm from 1 November to end of March at Hardinge Rd Ahuriri (on the beach between East Pier and Hot Chick)
. This programme is about developing tomorrow's lifeguards and opening up a whole new world for our children. We encourage children to have fun and teach them good skills to handle the sea and surf. It is a safe and affordable way for kids to learn and develop a lifetime of enjoyment in the sea and surf.
Annual cost $35 per child.

The City Nippers Pacific Junior Surf programme is held on Sunday mornings from 10 am to 12 noon at Hardinge Rd, Ahuriri.

Children are organised into age groups on the day and each group has its own set of instructors and equipment. Programmes are delivered in a manner appropriate to the development and skill level of the age group. Emphasis is given to water skills, craft handling and beach events.

City Nippers caters for children from ages 7 to 13 years. Children are trained and compete at carnivals within the following age groups:
7 to 9 years olds.
10 and 11 years olds.
Cadets (12 and 13 year olds).
(14 year olds and over are members of the Senior Division of the Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club).
Age groups are calculated from the ages at the 1st October 2015.

Ensure your child is prepared for the beach and that they bring their wetsuit, nipper hat (beach beanie), sun screen and goggles each week, along with warm clothes including polar fleeces for changing into.

Children wear whatever they feel comfortable in at the beach, however board shorts, T Shirts etc are not appropriate for any water activity.  They can wear wet suits if they have them. The Club has pink vests for each child to wear ($15 each) which are a compulsary safety requirement from SLSNZ.

An adult from each family must stay with each child while they are at the beach, this is a safety requirement plus your child may need one on one care from their guardian. (i.e. keeping them warm, getting them dry, cleaning sand from eyes……all the joys of a summer at the beach!) Once Nippers have finished they will be released back into the care of their guardians, if they wish to continue playing in the surf you must stay with them.

Beach Training does not take place when Nipper Surf Carnivals are on.

City Nippers have a text system in place for any weather related changes able to be passed to parents 24 hours prior to the event. Please ensure that we have your contact details. Pacific Surf cellphone 027 9377898.
